West Island schools warn parents after arrest of Howard Krupp

PIERREFONDS, Que. – It’s lunchtime at St. Anthony Elementary School in Pierrefonds, Que and outside the front entrance, there are many anxious parents waiting for their children.

“It’s very scary,” said Grace Lewis, a mother of five.

“I just found out Howard Krupp lives right there, two streets down.”

Many mothers and fathers are still a little shaken by last week’s arrest of the 67-year-old Pierrefonds resident.

Krupp was charged with criminally harrassing two schoolchildren.

He allegedly met boys and girls at bus stops, began talking to them, and then followed them home.

Since being charged, he has been freed on bail.

Joanne Malowany, the prinicipal of St. Anthony Elementary School, sent out a warning letter to parents Monday reminding them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

“The goal of the letter was to make the community aware,” Malowany told Global News.

“Once you get too comfortable, you can kind of lose track of important tips you can give your children.”

Two other West Island school sent out similar letters. Read them in full below.

This was not the first run-in with the law for Howard Krupp.

About 13 years ago, he was arrested in a massive child pornography case.

Inside his then Dollard-des-Ormeaux home, police discovered 12,000 photos of children.

Police believe Krupp may have stalked other youngsters across the West Island.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact 9-1-1.

“He had very suspicious behaviour,” noted Cmdr. Richard Thouin.

“We’re still searching for any other victims of this person.”

Since police release Krupp’s mugshot last Friday, police said that they have received a phone call from a West Island family claiming their children were approached by a strange man.

Howard Krupp returns to court on Jan. 27, 2014.
