Stolen war medals found dumped in a post box

A happy update to the story of some stolen war medals from a West Vancouver home.

The founding director of the Vancouver Aquarium, Murray Newman, was the victim in a break-and-enter on Monday afternoon, in which the thief or thieves, took some of his war medals.

Late Friday afternoon, West Vancouver Police received some good news from the Vancouver Police. A Canada Post Mail Carrier had found a total 19 medals dumped in a postal box on Commercial Drive. The mail carrier then turned the medals in at the local Community Policing Office.

It was quickly confirmed the recovered medals did include Newman’s Order of Canada, a Canada 125 medal and a Queen’s Jubilee medal.

Police say unfortunately the medals were recovered without the attached ribbons or mounting boards, but all the medals appear to be accounted for.
