Saturday – amounts five to ten centimetres
Tonight – snow at times heavy. Amount ten centimetres
Sunday – light snow ending near noon then cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries

The second snowfall of the season is on the way, and it’s expected to be a big one.

Environment Canada now says we can 20 centimetres of snow this weekend, with five to ten centimetres on Saturday and another ten on Sunday.

A low pressure system off the Pacific coast is set to move into Alberta Saturday bringing heavy snow to central and southern parts of the province.

Environment Canada says it isn’t sure exactly what path the system will take and is prepared to adjust its forecast as the system nears.

There’s potential for freezing rain before the snow starts falling early Saturday.

It will be the second snowfall of the season in southern Alberta.

Last Sunday Calgary received just under five centimetres, the snow causing dozens of crashes including more than 20 injury collisions.

Police recommend:

• Keep your headlights on at all times
• Ensure your vehicle is in a safe, mechanical condition
• Never use cruise control in winter conditions
• It is not recommended to travel in winter conditions if your vehicle is equipped with summer tires
• On a wet or slick surface, allow yourself at least three times the normal distance to stop
• Remember that bridge decks may be slippery when other parts of the highway are not
Officers also recommend you have a fully-charged cell phone on hand in case of emergency.
