Wind and rainfall warning issued for Metro Vancouver

Metro Vancouver is in for a wet and gusty weekend.

“The first major storm of the season moves into the South Coast this weekend,” says Global BC weather anchor Yvonne Schalle. “Currently, we have both a rain and windfall warning in effect for Metro Vancouver. ”

Environment Canada says potentially damaging winds are to be expected.

The approaching storm is bringing the moisture from the subtropics and is forecast to bring significant rainfall amounts to the South Coast.

“The wettest day of your weekend will be Saturday with the majority of the precipitation arriving in the morning. We are looking at heavy rain with rainfall amounts from 40 to 60 mm. The winds will be picking up in the afternoon between 40 to 60 km/h and potentially gusting up to 90 km/h.

We won’t be out of the rain just yet, we have another round of rain for Sunday,” says Schalle.

Environment Canada says rainfall amounts may exceed 75 mm over a 48-hour period this weekend.
