Calgary man describes ‘near death’ experience on Deerfoot Trail

CALGARY – An 18-year-old man has posted an ad on Kijiji trying to track down the person responsible for his brush with death on Deerfoot Trail.

Brett Lemke says he was almost killed when debris from a semi-truck crashed into his vehicle.

It happened on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m.

Lemke says he was travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail when a chunk of log fell off a semi-trailer as it took the on-ramp from Country Hills Boulevard.

The debris smashed into the hood of his car.

“He’s lucky to be alive, honestly,” says Duncan May with Silver Springs Automotive. “If that had gone any higher, it would have gone right through the windshield and he probably wouldn’t be with us right now.”

Lemke is looking for witnesses so he can get the driver to pay for the damage, which comes to about $2,000 and isn’t covered by insurance.
