Girl killed by motorcycle in Surrey remembered as good friend, kind, always smiling

A funeral will be held Sunday for a 16-year-old girl killed in a Surrey crash involving a motorcycle earlier this week.

Online tributes are pouring in mourning Amarpreet Sivia, an honour roll student who was deeply involved at Princess Margaret Secondary School.

Sivia was killed Wednesday while crossing 128th Street between 72nd and 68th avenues in front of her school to get lunch with two friends, Jaspreet Dhami and Shahana Samira.

A motorcyclist hit the three girls, killing Sivia and injuring the other two.

One of the girls was taken to hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries and the other suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Witnesses said the motorcycle may have been speeding, but RCMP hasn’t confirmed whether charges will be laid.

Mounties are looking to speak to the driver of the vehicle that was passed by the motorcyclist leading up to the crash.

The girls were not crossing at a marked pedestrian crosswalk and the fatal crash has prompted calls for changes to the street.

Documents show the City of Surrey knew the street in front of the school posed a safety concern.

A report commissioned by the City of Surrey in 2010, addressed the issue of road safety around the school, but decided a crosswalk wasn’t warranted.

Friends and family remembered Sivia as a kind, friendly girl with a bright future.

“Flowers in memory of Amarpreet, an all around beautiful person. I don’t understand why these kinds of things happen to the best people,” Gurvir K. Grewal said on Facebook.

“Amarpreet Sivia, you were always so kind, helpful, and just an amazing friend overall. I still can’t believe you’re gone forever. it sucks knowing that I will never be able to see you ever again,” Aman Bassi said on Facebook.
