OTTAWA – The number of illnesses linked to E. coli contaminated cheese from British Columbia continues to grow.

A case in Quebec was added over the weekend; and on Monday, the Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed it is investigating one other case in Manitoba, along with another existing case in Saskatchewan, as well as nine cases each in both Alberta and B.C.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

It brings the total number of cases under investigation to 21.

The health agency says those people became ill between mid-July and early September.

An outbreak of bacteria at Gort’s Gouda Cheese Farm in Salmon Arm, B.C., has been blamed for an elderly woman’s death and a rash of illnesses.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled 15 raw-milk cheese products sold online, at the Gort’s farm and elsewhere in British Columbia and Alberta between May 27 to Sept. 14.
