TORONTO – Tropical Storm Gabrielle was downgraded to a tropical depression on Friday, while Hurricane Humberto was dropped to a Tropical Storm and Tropical Depression Ten was upgraded to Tropical Storm Ingrid.

Though Hurricane Humberto has been the only hurricane in the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season, there have already been 11 storms this season.

Tropical Depression Gabrielle has been going up and down between a depression and tropical storm. It is slowly making its way to the Maritimes.

Nova Scotia is already feeling the effects of Gabrielle as heavy and persistent rain has moved into the area. The Canadian Hurricane Centre is forecasting up to 70 mm of rain for central and northeastern Nova Scotia and rainfall warnings are in effect for the areas.

Tropical Storm Humberto is moving west-northwestward at 17 km/h and should continue along that track for the next couple of days. Humberto’s sustained winds are near 100 km/h with higher gusts. Currently, Humberto poses no threat to land.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ingrid has become the ninth named storm of the season, as it strengthened off the coast of Mexico.

The storm is inching its way inland at 4 km/h with sustained winds of 75 km/h. Some strengthening is forecast in the next two days.

Rainfall is expected to produce 254 to 381 mm of rain over eastern Mexico with the possibility of higher amounts near mountainous terrain. Flash floods are likely.
