HALIFAX – The Canadian Hurricane Centre says tropical storm Gabrielle, which redeveloped in the Atlantic and is approaching Bermuda, could bring heavy rain to parts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island later this week.
The centre says the storm’s current track takes it just easy of Cape Breton and that heavy rain could fall because it will merge with a cold front that is expected to move into the Maritimes on Friday morning.

It says Newfoundland is on the warmer and more windy side of the storm’s track, but it is warning that the storm could easily shift direction.
It is too early for the centre to give wind and rainfall predictions, but it expects to have a better idea on Thursday on wind speeds and rainfall amounts.

Bermuda is preparing for the arrival of the storm, suspending ferry services today as wind and rain started to pick up.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says tropical storm conditions are expected late today, with up to 10 centimetres of rain predicted for Bermuda.
