The altercation happened between the young men and the driver of a car. Police say the driver of a silver or grey Honda Civic, mid to late 2000 model, is between 40 and 50 years of age. The murder is now being investigated by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Friends of Yellowbird say he was someone who was calm and kind and often the peacemaker in his group. His facebook page indicated he was a construction worker.

The young men were drinking with a larger group at Johnson Heights Highschool when they left their friends and started crossing the street, friends say. While crossing the street, the driver of a Honda Civic came close to hitting the pair. The 17-year-old kicked the car as it passed, the driver stopped, got out of the car and a fight ensued. The two young men were stabbed by the driver, who then fled the scene.

If anyone has information about the incident is asked to contact the IHIT tip line by calling 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
