WASKESIU, Sask. – He may have found little support for the idea, but Saskatchewan’s premier is not backing down from his call to abolish the senate.

Brad Wall said he will raise the issue this fall in the legislature.

“We should abolish it. The single houses of government in the provinces works very well, the House of Commons can work well,” Wall said on Wednesday at the Sask Party’s yearly retreat.

“I don’t think we need a group of unelected women and men appointed by whoever the prime minster happens to be with real power, spending money without the accountability.”

Wall said his Members of the Legislative Assembly have also heard from constituents that the senate is beyond repair and should be abolished.
