TORONTO – A U.K. tabloid newspaper has apologized following what throngs are calling a ‘tactless’ cover story on Kate Middleton’s baby weight and “weight loss regime.”
A mere 24 hours after the Duchess of Cambridge birthed a human being OK! Magazine splashed a photo of Kate on its cover with the headline “Kate’s post-baby weight loss regime.”
The cover quickly sparked backlash, with some calling on mothers to boycott the magazine.
“I’m actually pretty offended, not for Kate, I’m sure home-girl can handle herself but I’m offended for every single woman who has ever had a baby…EVER! EVER EVER EVER!” wrote Melissa Weldon on the blog thrutheblue.me.
“I am 99.9% sure whoever was responsible for that article has never grown a human,” Weldon added.
OK! reportedly apologized for the cover and defended their decision to run the cover, saying they were “moved by her radiance.”
On Tuesday, as she and Prince William presented their new baby outside of London’s Saint Mary’s hospital – Kate wearing a baby blue polka-dot Jenny Packham dress – many praised her decision to openly show her baby-bump.
“Kate Middleton, you just revolutionized the idea of celebrity post-baby bodies when you bravely stepped out in front of the world on July 23, just one day after giving birth to your first son Prince George. Your gorgeous baby blue polka dot dress clung to your belly, and you demonstrated that you were far more interested in being a doting mom to your baby boy than hiding your beautiful pregnancy curves!” said Bonnie Fuller in Hollywood Life.
The OK! cover controversy has some wondering, isn’t it about time everyone gave the new parents a break?
