SASKATOON – It’s back to the drawing board for Kinsmen Park.

Construction of phase one for the Kinsmen Park and area master plan that was scheduled to start this month has been delayed after the only bid came in significantly over budget.

The city will now be re-tendering the project at the end of October after the design team and the project consultant, Space2Place, look at cost savings strategies for phase one.

It is expected construction will now start in early 2014 with it opening to the public in the spring of 2015. It was originally expected to open in 2014.

Phase one includes a new train and track, a rides garden with a ferris wheel and carousel, plaza area and children’s play area and water feature.

K3 excavating began demolition of the existing park in March, including the removal of all site furnishings and train tracks.
