Final section of Anthony Henday Drive is approved

Premier Ed Stelmach announced on Wednesday that the final leg of Edmonton’s Anthony Henday Drive has been given the "green light"

According to Transportation Minister Luke Ouellette, Anthony Henday Drive Northeast will be considered "Alberta’s single largest highway construction project to date".

The project involves 27 kilometres of six- and eight-lane divided roadway that will connect Whitemud Drive East to the Manning Freeway, plus eight interchanges, nine flyovers, two river structures and a total of 47 bridge structures. The work will be done as a public-private partnership (P3). By taking a P3 approach, the road will be in service by fall of 2016 roughly three years sooner than if it were built conventionally,” Stelmach said.

A request has been issued for qualifications. It can take about three months for a request to be accepted.
