Subaru clocked going 221 KPH in a 110 zone near Campbell River

A 2013 Subaru 20R was caught travelling 221 KPH in a posted 110 KPH zone along Highway 19 near Campbell River on Friday afternoon.

Officers with the North Island Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) stopped the car, which was driven by a 25-year-old Port McNeill man. They spotted him driving this speed just before entering an intersection with a posted speed limit of 90 KPH.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Police say there was a lot of traffic around at the time, and it was really windy, which added to the danger of the situation.

The driver received a violation ticket for excessive speed, which can be up to $483, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police want drivers to record the license plate, location, and where the car is going, if they see a vehicle driving in a dangerous manner, and then when safe to do so, report the information to police.
