Car that hit five-year-old boy in Surrey found, driver at large

SURREY, B.C. – Mounties have recovered the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a five-year-old boy outside an elementary school Friday afternoon.

Acting on tips from the public, Surrey RCMP found the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway of a home several blocks away from the scene. The driver, however, is still at large.

The family of the young victim, Arshdeep Sidhu, gathered at their Surrey home late Friday night anxiously waiting for news of the boy’s condition.

Sidhu was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being struck in a hit-and-run outside Surrey Elementary school around 3 p.m.

Witnesses said they heard a loud thud and then screaming and crying.

“They were walking home from school and the little boy, I guess he didn’t see any cars, but he didn’t wait for his grandpa and his brother to cross the road with him,” said witness Janine Ho.

Ho said as the boy was crossing the road a car came out of no where and hit him before fleeing the scene.

“His body twirled onto the side of the road and he was just lying there,  I don’t hear any response from him and so I run to him and call for someone to call 911,” she said.

“I see his face after and it’s very bloody and his nose is cut and there’s cuts everywhere.”

According to relatives at the family home, they are unaware of his condition, but claim a woman was driving the fast-moving four-door Mercedes that struck him at 161 Street and 92 Avenue.

The driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP or Crimestoppers.
