STRASBOURG, Sask. – RCMP are investigating a possible clandestine lab site at an abandoned homestead near the town of Strasbourg, north of Regina.

Investigators from the Southey RCMP detachment were called to the site last Wednesday after a local resident reported seeing dead patches of grass and unusual chemical containers.

The site was secured and a clandestine lab team – comprised of RCMP investigators, local fire and EMS members and staff from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment – was sent to investigate further. That team has been on site since Saturday, working to identify the chemicals and render them safe.

It is not clear if the site was being used as a clandestine lab or an illegal dump site, though some of the materials found at the site are known to be used in the production of some drugs.

Investigators are expected to remain on scene for several days.
