SASKATOON – Manitoba and Saskatchewan got a “D” in the latest report card on the nation’s health status.
The Conference Board of Canada benchmarked provincial health systems, produced under the Canadian Alliance for Sustainable Health Care.
A board spokeswoman says that means there will be a greater demand for health care services in those provinces.
The four Maritime provinces also got a failing grade for dozens of key indicators that rate the overall health of the population.
The indicators were grouped in three major categories: life expectancy, mortality rates and rates of disease.
The findings are part of a massive report that probes the health of Canadians by province, and looks at ways to meet future health-care demands.
Full details will be released next week at a conference in Edmonton called the Western Summit on Sustainable Health.
