Saskatoon police cruiser crash launches impaired driving investigation

SASKATOON – A civilian motorist is being investigated for impaired driving after a collision involving a Saskatoon police cruiser on Sunday morning.

Around 9:25 a.m., emergency services were called to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Idylwyld Drive and 33rd Street.

Police say one of their vehicles was traveling southbound on Idylwyld when a westbound SUV ran a red light and struck the cruiser.

The constable operating the police car sustained minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

A 25-year-old male passenger from the SUV refused medical attention.

The intersection was temporarily shut down while an investigation was carried out by the collision analyst unit.
