TRURO, NS — Truro fire investigators say a system failure in a fireplace is responsible for a blaze that partially burned down a historic landmark.
Last Thursday a fire erupted at the A.J. Walker building, burning down some retail units and badly damaging others.
Ryan Thibeau says that witness statements and photographs helped investigators determine that a lit fireplace on the first floor of the east building was the cause.
“Due to the extent of the fire, we don’t know exactly what failed in the heating system,” says Thibeau.
Thibeau says the fire was accidental and there will be no charges as a result.
The fire department has now closed the case.
