CALGARY- While taste is tops when it comes to rating restaurants, a number of eateries across the country have made the list of Canada’s ‘greenest’ restaurants.

LEAF, an organization that works to make those providing food services aware of their environmental impact, has released a list of establishments providing Canadians with socially responsible choices—just in time for Earth Day. The restaurants were picked based on their ability of using locally grown and organic products.

“The role the food industry plays towards building community and reducing environmental impacts continues to grow, as more diners look to local businesses that go further for people and the planet,” said Janine Windsor, president of LEAF.

Calgary lead the pack, making up more than 70 per cent of the winners, with one mention for an eatery in Canmore. Six in Ontario made the list, along with one on Vancouver Island and another in Newfoundland.
