MONTREAL – The jury in a murder trial at the Montreal Courthouse heard some eye-opening evidence about a three-year old murder investigation.

Twenty-eight-year-old Maria Altagarcia Dorval apparently called police because she was worried about threats made by her estranged husband.

Montreal police did not meet with her, and six days later, Dorval was discovered dead in her home.

Thirty-eight-year-old Edens Kenol is now facing charges of first-degree murder.

Details were unveiled in court the week of April 15.

In the morning of October 17, 2010, Kenol allegedly attacked his wife as she returned home from a party, repeatedly stabbing her in the kitchen of her home.

Police found the woman’s body on the back balcony of the home. The couple had three children.

Kenol and Dorval had separated in August 2010 – approximately two months before the murder; apparently after Kenol allegedly pointed a knife at his Dorval.

The court heard Kenol had a difficult time accepting the break-up and he allegedly called his ex up to 50 times a day.

Crown prosecutor Jacques Dagenais has plans to present 18 witnesses in the three-week trial.

Defence lawyer Patrick Davis told Global News that he only has one witness – a psychiatrist.
