TORONTO – Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti is back to work at city hall after recently undergoing brain surgery at a Toronto hospital.
Mammoliti was met with applause and well-wishes Monday as he took a seat at the executive committee’s casino discussions Monday.
“I can only stay about five minutes but you know why I’m here. I’m hoping that this table will do the right thing today,” he said. “I want to thank everybody in this city and around this city hall for all their wonderful wishes.”
“The hundreds of letters and the thousands of phone calls have really meant a lot to me and my family,” he added.
Mayor Rob Ford said it was “great” to see Mammoliti back in city hall.
The North York councillor was recently admitted to ST. Michael’s Hospital after experiencing dizziness and suffering from an abnormality in his right eye.
Several tests determined Mammoliti had a condition that caused a miscommunication between the veins and arteries in the brain which, if left untreated, could have lead to a stroke.
