OTTAWA – The weekly earnings for non-farm workers in Saskatchewan had the highest yearly increase in Canada.

Statistics Canada says earnings increased by 5.0 per cent to an average of $936.00 in 2012.

The government says the increase in wages is a sign the economy in the province is still strong.

“Higher wages for Saskatchewan working people is a true measure of our economic progress,” said Economy Minister Bill Boyd.

“These increases are significant, and we are confident that wages will continue to rise in 2013.”

Boyd also said the increase in wages makes Saskatchewan a destination for people seeking jobs and improves the quality of life.

The news comes on the same day the Conference Board of Canada released a reporting saying Saskatoon and Regina currently have tight labour markets.
