History & Geography: Created before the 1991 election from the old Vancouver East riding, Vancouver-Kensington roughly comprises the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. Aside from the 2001 election, the area has voted for the NDP candidate in every election since 1956.

  • Density: 6521.4 people/km (2nd)

Candidates

Liberals-Gurjit Dhillon: A recruiting coordinator for the RCMP the last seven years, Dhillon was born and raised in the northern city of Terrace. She has also worked for Vancouver General hospital as a unit clerk, and volunteers with SUCCESS and the Vancouver Arts Umbrella. She is fluent in Punjabi and Hindi.

NDP-Adrian Dix: The leader of the NDP, Dix was first elected in 2005, and won the NDP’s leadership race in 2011. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff to Premier Glen Clark from 1996 to 1999. In between, he was a political commentator, writing for the Times Colonist in Victoria and The Source in the lower mainland. Fluent in English and French, Dix graduated from UBC.

Greens-Gregory Esau: A former carpenter building who built custom homes, Esau has never ran for political office. His website says he is “developing a career as a change consultant.”
