His arrest for the killing of Serena Vermeersh three years ago sparked a huge debate in B.C. about dangerous offenders being released back into the public.
Last week Raymond Caissie pleaded guilty to second degree murder, and now he is set to be sentenced on Oct. 20.
He was due to be sentenced today but that has now been put over.
It’s not the first time he’s faced a jail sentence however.
He served an entire 22-year sentence for a violent sexual assault and kidnapping in Abbotsford back in 1991.
Caissie was released from prison in 2013, amid warnings he was “likely to commit an offence causing the death of or serious harm to another person” if he was released before his 22-year sentence finished.

Even Caissie himself told the Parole Board he “would like to stay incarcerated for several more years” and that he “feared he would re-offend.”
But as the year of his release drew closer, Caissie would later tell the Board those comments had been taken out of context.
“You are backtracking on these statements,” the Parole Board stated.
Five years later, he was free.
But even after his release, authorities continue to issue warnings that Caissie was a high-risk sex offender.
After year his release, Vermeersh’s body was found alongside railway tracks in Surrey.
