Finlay Creek fire near Peachland, B.C. grows to 1000 hectares

Fire crews battle a 1000-hectare blaze 7 km southwest of Peachland.

Fire crews are battling an aggressive wildfire in the Okanagan, about seven kilometres southwest of Peachland, B.C., that began Saturday afternoon.

The fire is considered to be out of control and has grown to around 1000 hectares.

The BC Wildfire Service said the steep terrain and westerly winds initially posed challenges to firefighting crews.

Crews and heavy equipment worked overnight to build guards around the fire’s perimeter.

On Saturday there were 18 firefighting personnel, three helicopters and air tankers on site.

Hot, dry conditions are expected to remain a challenge over the coming days in the Okanagan, according to officials.
