A young boy is in hospital after he fell off a flatbed truck at the Nanton Round-Up Days parade in the southern Alberta town. Fire Chief John Dozemon said the child was then struck by the vehicle from which he fell.
Emergency officials were called at around 11 a.m. Monday.
STARS Air Ambulance met paramedics at the High River, Alta. airport and flew the six-year-old boy to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, EMS said.
Spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said he was in serious but stable condition.
“The ground crew from High River assessed him and determined that he had chest injuries,” Brideaux said. “There was some concern for other internal injuries that can’t be assessed in the pre-hospital environment.”
He did not have details on how the boy fell.
Dozemon said it happened at the end of the parade by the school staging area.
Nanton Mayor Rick Everett said he knows the family personally and is hoping for a quick recovery for the boy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are really with the family.”
RCMP are investigating.
