WINNIPEG — The sun has been hot, and according to officials at Winnipeg Folk Fest, so have ticket sales.

The four day festival is drawing to a close Sunday, and looking back, officials at the annual event said they are celebrating one of their most successful years.

“It’s been sunny, the breeze has come up at the right time, the bands have been fantastic, the audience has been loving it. It is a banner year for us,” Folk Fest Executive Director Lynne Skromeda said.

Advanced ticket sales were up 30 per cent this year compared to 2016. Once the festival started, Skromeda said walk up ticket sales were also high.

“We’re expecting they’re going to be very very strong this year,” she said.

No official numbers have been calculated yet, as the festival waits to see results from a new analytic system.

She said the festival is expecting big sales, with the combination of clear weather, and big musical acts like City and Colour, Feist, and the Barenaked Ladies.

“A lot of people said this is their favourite year in several years,” she said. “It all came together to create a perfect storm, in a good way.”

The festival wraps up Sunday night with a performance from the Barenaked Ladies at 8:40 p.m.
