Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley are the stars of the popular online video series #IMOMSOHARD that pokes fun at the trials and tribulations of motherhood. They’ve addressed a wide range of subjects about raising kids, from parenting while sick to postpartum depression, and now their latest video is striking a chord with followers for its universal (and seasonal) appeal: the ridiculousness of women’s swimsuits.

The video, titled “I Swimsuit Season So Hard,” looks at the difficulties of doing anything besides lying in the sunshine when wearing a women’s swimsuit. It has garnered over 170,000 shares on their Facebook page since mid-May, and has more than 18,000 comments that are equal parts women commiserating over their swimsuit woes and laughing-crying emojis.
The Facebook post of the video lists the many things moms are required to do while at the beach, including “lifeguard, build sandcastles, supply treats, re-stand the umbrella every dang time it blows over, spray sunscreen, drink a beer, look for seashells, warm-up wet kiddos, force people to eat sandwiches and drink juice, blow up water-wings, and keep my son from publicly urinating.”
And concludes with: “I don’t have time to let a piece of Lycra throw me off my game,” thus setting the stage for an incisive and hilarious look at modern swimsuits.
The video starts with the comediennes dressed in board shorts and T-shirts, pointing out how functional and easy-to-wear men’s beachwear is. They then segue into modelling different women’s swimsuits, featuring cutouts, straps and designs that are unflattering to most body types, and impractical for anyone attempting to do the litany of mom-things listed above.
As they evaluate the different swimsuits and how unappealing they look — “This gives me four complete butt cheeks,” Smedley says of one — they reach some sobering and realistic conclusions about body consciousness and the importance of accepting yourself.

“Nobody thinks that they look perfect, ever,” Smedley states.
“You wanna know what’s really sexy? Joy,” Hensley says. “I want my daughter to love her life and to love herself. And she’s not going to do it because I tell her to do it, she’s going to do it because I teach her to do it.”
But it’s perhaps Hensley’s concluding statement that truly sums up how we should approach swimsuit season.
“I would love a revenge body, but I’ll take a f*ck-it attitude.”
The video has received more than 16 million views so far, and the reaction on Twitter has been uproarious.
