Huron County OPP are investigating the death of a Cambridge man who appears to have drowned in the Nine Mile River west of Dungannon.
A preliminary investigation revealed that two men were canoeing in the rapid waters when their craft struck a fallen tree on Friday.
The resulting collision capsized the canoe and one of the men was left trapped underwater.
The second man was able to drag his friend to shore where he received medical attention but ultimately died at the scene.
Police have identified the deceased as 23-year-old Nicholas St. Pierre-Beke.
According to officials, a post-mortem examination is being scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
