Although the old woman who lived in a shoe was just a fictitious character dreamed up in a nursery rhyme, you could live in a shoe: a cowboy boot, to be specific.

Artist Dan Phillips created the cowboy boot house in Huntsville, Texas and it’s now available for rent for US $1,200 a month.

“I’ve always been fascinated, since I was a child, to build houses that looked like the houses in storybooks. To do childlike designs and use a lot of whimsy,” Phillips said in a YouTube video about the construction of the house.

Realtor Darlene Zender said she’s already received many calls about the 711 square foot, two bedroom, one bathroom house.

A more conventional building that juts out from the boot houses one bedroom and the living area, but the boot holds the kitchen, bathroom and the second bedroom featuring a fireplace at the toe. A spiral staircase up the boot leads to a rooftop deck.

Phillips’ company Phoenix Commotion is focussed on sustainability, with the majority of his work based on reclaimed materials. He said he mostly builds homes for low-income families, single parents, or artists.

According to local reports, the owner of this cowboy boot house hopes to rent it out to an artist.

But if the boot wasn’t enough to hammer home the cowboy theme, Phillips is planning to build a cowboy hat-shaped house next to the boot.
