The annual Christmas tree pickup took place in north end Halifax on Saturday.
The event has been put on by the Ecology Action Centre since the late 1990s and is now a well-loved tradition for many Halifax-area families.
This year, there were over 550 sustainable, spray free trees available.
All money raised from the event goes to support initiatives put on by the Ecology Action Centre.
“It’s one of our main three fundraisers in the year,” said Joanna Bull, volunteer and events coordinator with the centre.
“I think what gives it even more importance is that it’s such a wonderful way for us to connect with our community.”
Bull believes the event has become more popular is because more people are starting to ask questions about the impact of their holiday decor on the environment and are looking for sustainable options.
