Approximately 75 daredevils took to the ring to outrun five feisty bulls in the first ever Running of the Bulls. Participants had to sign a fairly extensive waiver.

“We do have some bull fighters around, some pick up men. Traditional rodeo protection is in place,” Corey Hoskins, an event organizer said.

Competitors said they were starting to sweat ahead of the event.

“Hopefully the walls aren’t too big, and my legs are feeling pretty fresh,” Jason Baht said.

The audience voted by texting the number of their favourite runner to Agribition. The winner was awarded $1,500.

For six days, Agribition has transformed Evraz Place into a mini-city. More than 100,000 people, over 2,000 animals, and 1,200 yards of dirt were trucked in.

“Our international component was very strong as well. We had over 1200 guests from 66 countries,” Agribition president Stewart Stone said.

Ticket sales are up from last year but organizers said this is a transition year for the show as they prepare for new facilities next year.

“At the same time, the investment and the positive feedback and the energy about Agribition is as strong as I believe it ever has been. It’s a great sign for us,” Agribition CEO Chris Lane said.

The six-day exhibition wraps up on Saturday. Organizers said they’re already planning for next year’s show, scheduled from Nov. 20 to 25, 2017.
