RCMP played no hand in Penticton attempted suicide: investigation

A team of investigators has concluded RCMP actions did not play a factor in an attempted suicide in Penticton.
On September 21, Penticton RCMP responded to a 911 call about a woman in emotional distress. While engaged with RCMP, the woman jumped from the balcony and sustained serious injuries.
A team from the Independent Investigations Office was deployed to Penticton five days after the incident to interview witnesses, examine the scene and canvass the neighbourhood. An investigation report was then submitted to the Chief Civilian Director.
The director concluded that “there was no reason to believe that there was any connection between an officer’s actions and the affect person’s decision to jump from the balcony”.
No further action will be taken by the Independent Investigations Office.
