Red Deer RCMP are crediting a police dog with helping them locate and arrest a man wanted on 22 warrants.

Officers were called to 77 Street and 47 Avenue Close at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a suspicious van. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl with a 2005 Dodge Caravan that had been reported stolen earlier the same day.

RCMP said the man ran off on foot but was quickly located by a police dog.

Chad Allen Brown, 29, is charged with several offences including possession of stolen property under $5,000 and resisting a police officer. The 22 warrants previously issued for his arrest included charges of possession, trafficking and resisting a peace officer.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on Thursday.
