A 31-year-old Regina man is facing numerous firearms charges after police found a sawed-off shotgun in an abandoned van Sunday.

On Oct. 23, Regina police said they received information that 31-year-old Harold Hanson had a firearm, which was contrary to court-ordered conditions.

Hanson was also the subject of a bench warrant after he didn’t appear in court Oct. 16.

Due to the circumstances and a potential risk to the public, police officers found Hanson outside a business in the 5000 block of 4th Avenue.

Police said he got into a passenger seat of a van then got out and started walking.

Hanson was arrested without incident while allegedly wearing two sets of body armour. He also allegedly had ammunition in his pocket.

Police said the van drove away when police tried to stop it. It was later found abandoned in an alley in the 600 block of King Street.

Officers then found a sawed-off shotgun on the floor of the passenger-side floor and ammunition.

In addition to the warrant, Hanson, 31, from Regina, is now facing nine new charges including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm obtained by crime.

He appeared in provincial court at 2 p.m.
