A pair of websites have been launched in an effort to open dialogue between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump supporters.

Calladeplorable.com asks, “Do you support Hillary Clinton? Anonymously call a supporter and share your perspective.”

Callanelitist.com asks the same question in reverse.

The sites allow supporters to enter their phone number with the idea they will be connected with someone from the opposite camp.

“We hope that every voter can take the time to share their story and listen to what others have to say before election day,” the sites say.

One of the sites’ developers, Alexandre Roche, wrote a Facebook post explaining why he was motivated to work on the project.

“I’ve been thinking about how disconnected I am from the views of Trump supporters and how it would be cool to talk to them one-on-one about how they’re feeling,” the post said. “As a one-off experiment, we wanted to create a quick way to talk to a Trump or Clinton supporter on the phone.”

Given that only 23 per cent of people’s Facebook friends share different political ideologies, it would seem like a prime way to hear how the opposition thinks.

As Roche himself says, “I’m trying to spread the word to Trump supporters but I don’t know many (or any?).”
