WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Parking Authority (WPA) wants to evaluate whether body cameras would make sense for its officers.
Next week the WPA will ask city hall to fund a pilot project with a goal of full implementation of body cameras in 2017.
In its request to the standing policy committee the WPA says body cameras would provide “objective video evidence” and would “enhance the quality assurance and training practices.”
The WPA is asking for $32,501 in 2016 for the pilot project and estimates full implementation to cost $177,660.
The WPA says it issues about 160,000 tickets per year.
