VICTORIA – British Columbia’s premier is hailing the hard work and dedication of six athletes who brought home eight medals from the Paralympic Summer Games in Rio.

Christy Clark says the athletes who hauled in just over a quarter of the Paralympic medals make B.C. proud.

The six athletes include Parksville resident and wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell, who is also a member of the legislative assembly and the minister of social development in Clark’s cabinet.

The 42-year-old politician won two gold medals at the 2016 games and now has a total of five gold career Paralympic medals.

Tristan Chernove of Cranbrook took home gold, silver and bronze medals for his performance in cycling events.

Victoria residents John McRoberts and Jackie Gay won a joint silver medal in sailing while Liam Stanley, also of Victoria, took silver in the 1,500-metre race and wheelchair racer Tristan Smyth of Maple Ridge won a bronze medal.
