The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time to gaze at the moon, but some residents were given a huge surprise on Wednesday as winds from Typhoon Meranti set an inflatable moon balloon loose to roll its way across parts of Fuzhou, capital of southeast China’s Fujian Province.
Amateur video caught by motorists and passersby show the half-deflated celestial body rolling across a construction site as well as pedestrians and vehicles on the road. One image in the video shows a woman with an electric bike look uncertain as to what to do before quickly moving out of the way of the moon.

Locals called it the “furious moon,” saying it spiced up the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Sept. 15 this year. According to traditions, Chinese people enjoy family reunions, admire the moon and eat mooncakes to celebrate.
However, some people will not be able to see the moon this Mid-Autumn Festival as Typhoon Meranti unleashes its wrath throughout some regions in China. According to reports, this has led some cities to set up inflatable moon balloons in public areas to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival.
