The mother of missing 18-year-old Mendelle Robles is issuing an urgent appeal to the public for help in finding her daughter, who suffers from a mental health illness and has been without her medication for over 42 hours.

“It’s absolutely anxiety-provoking and we are very sick with worry, not knowing whether she is safe or not,” Melanie Robles said late Saturday night. “Mendelle does suffer from a mental health illness and with that, she requires a particular set of medications for treatment and also some extra help in the organizing of her life.”

Mendelle Robles’ mother, Melanie, makes an urgent appeal to the public for help to find her missing daughter.

The family just relocated to Calgary from the Edmonton area within the last month. Mendelle started Grade 12 at Bishop Grandin High School in the city’s southwest and has ties to the music community, as a cellist.

“She’s the most beautiful kid ever and she is so very dear to myself, my husband and the rest of our family. And we have a lot of worried and very loving family members surrounding us during this time.

“She loves them dearly and they love her dearly and she is a kid with some medical problems and a huge heck of a lot of gifts, as well.”

Robles said her daughter was last seen Friday, “in the care of my sister and father at the time.”

“It was a very abrupt exit from the house and that was a reflection of her illness,” she said.

Robles said police helicopters and ground crews searched the area near the house through Friday night and during the day Saturday. Mendelle was spotted at the Co-op grocery store on Southland Drive in Oakridge at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

“With the loss of her medications immediately, we’re not quite sure how that will affect her, whether that is going to make more likely to be in an agitated state or even perhaps make her fall into a confused state,” she said. “So we’re uncertain how we might find her.”

Robles isn’t sure if her daughter has money on her but believes she has identification.

Mendelle is described as 5’5” tall, 110 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. Her mother says she either wears in a ponytail or down. She was wearing black leggings, a dark red tank top but no shoes the last time she was seen.

“We have a lot of family and friends’ support, putting out posters with her picture on it and talking to the detectives on the case and doing some searching ourselves, looking for clues, following up on leads,” Robles said.

“We’re really keeping faith that there’s going to be a good outcome to this.”

Calgary police confirmed Mendelle was still missing as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
