Six months after its vehicle-for-hire bylaw came into effect, the City of Edmonton is asking citizens to weigh in on how ride-sharing companies are regulated and whether or not their vehicles should have markings on them that identify them as private transportation vehicles.
In June, several city councillors expressed concern ride-sharing companies were picking up street hails, something not allowed under the current bylaw rules.

Watch below: Some Edmonton city councillors say they have concerns over how ride-sharing vehicles in the city may prompt people to hail rides from them like cabs, something only taxis are allowed to do. Nancy Carlson explains why decals could be at the root of the problem.
The City of Edmonton launched a new online survey Friday to gain insight from citizens about what they think of the current bylaw and how they use taxi and ride-sharing services. The survey closes Sept. 29 at 11:59 p.m.
The questions will also be distributed to the Insight Community, a forum through which Edmontonians can share their thoughts with the city. Anyone 15 years of age and older who lives or owns property in Edmonton can become a member.
Survey results as well as input from the industry, will be shared in a report to the city’s Executive Committee on Oct. 18.
