Construction around every corner of Winnipeg leaves many drivers frustrated

WINNIPEG — Many Winnipeg drivers say there are really only two seasons in the city: winter and construction.

With a lot of the cities’ major routes blocked or stuck at a stand still due to construction, the patience of drivers is wearing thing. With school back in session, and more people out on the roads, many drivers say they are beyond frustrated.

While there are many large projects going on across the city, three of the big ones frustrating drivers, people living in the area, and businesses are:

  1. Pembina Highway from Osborne Street to Grant Avenue.
  2. Selkirk Avenue stage two from Arlington Avenue to McGregor Street.
  3. Century Street from Ness Avenue to Academy Road.

The City of Winnipeg said more than 150 Winnipeg streets are slated to be renewed this year and will be under construction for the most part until the end of October or mid-November.

Many drivers told Global News they are frustrated, as no matter what hour they hit the streets they get blocked one way or another by construction. However, many drivers have also said as frustrating as it is, they have to endure a little bit of pain for long term gain.
