After her daughter was left 1.5 kilometres away from her bus stop on the first day of school, Fatima Farooq told Global News she received an apology from the bus company.
Farooq said the manager of Autobus Jona, Yvon Roy, accepted the driver’s mistake and took responsibility for what happened.
She also noted that Roy assured her the company would work with the school board to improve their follow-up procedures.
At the time of the incident, the route was given to a spare driver who was not familiar with the drive.

“He didn’t know the route, so he was checking on the list, but he didn’t know, he didn’t mark down that kid was on the bus,” Roy said.
“The driver was taken out of the school run.”
Farooq was waiting for her five-year-old daughter, Maroush, when she never came off of the bus.
It turns out the girl was left on Tanglewood Street, about 1.5 kilometres away from her actual stop, on the corner of Boisé and Meaney streets in Kirkland.
“What could be the situation? So I tried calling the school.”
Farooq said the driver thought Maroush might have been left behind at the school, École Du Bout-De-L’Isle in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
A woman in the neighbourhood discovered Maroush standing on the street and after looking at the girl’s backpack tag, she drove her to the proper bus stop.
“It was fortunate enough that she was back home, but what could have been the situation if she could have been lost?” Farooq wondered.
