Most kids across the province are heading back to school today.
School zones are now in effect and motorists are required to slow down to 30 km/hr in school zones.
Police are expected to be present at many school locations this morning to catch speeding drivers.
Fines for drivers passing school buses with flashing lights have also doubled to $368. Drivers are reminded that when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, drivers must stop too.
If the bus has its amber lights flashing, slow down and prepare to stop. Drivers should remain stopped until the bus moves or the driver signals it is safe for you to pass.
Enrollment for B.C. schools is up province-wide for the second year in a row, with Surrey seeing the largest estimated increase.
