A West Kelowna teenager in police custody after a series of crimes.
It was just before 10 p.m. on Sunday that police got a report of a stolen black Mercedes S430 which was taken from the 300 block of Clarissa Road.
Not long after, an officer on patrol spotted the stolen vehicle being driven along Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna.
“The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the stolen vehicle, which failed to stop for police and subsequently collided with a parked vehicle on Lawrence Avenue,” Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a news release.
Two women were arrested at the scene of the crash but the male youth fled from the scene on foot.
Even with the help of a police services dog, RCMP were not able to track down the suspect in their area of containment.
Around midnight is when police got a report of the break and enter at the home in the 700 block of Elliott Avenue.
When they responded, they found out the home owner had apprehended two people involved.
“[A] third suspect managed to flee from the area in the owners’ Dodge pickup truck, after allegedly stealing the owner’s wallet, cell phone and keys,” O’Donaghey said.
A suspect was later identified and RCMP determined that both alleged crimes were related.
“With the help of a cell phone tracking app, investigators tracked down the stolen Dodge pickup truck and the theft suspect to the area of Creekview Crescent in West Kelowna,” O’Donaghey said.
The 17-year-old suspect was later arrested. He was found in possession of the property allegedly stolen during the break and enter on Elliott Avenue.
The teen is still in police custody and faces potential charges including theft, theft of auto, break and enter, possession of stolen property, flight from police and breach of a recognizance.
