BC Ferries’ President and CEO Mike Corrigan is stepping down from his role in 2017.
The announcement was made today by the ferry corporation’s Board Chair Donald Hayes, who said after 13 years of service, Corrigan “is leaving the company in a very good place.”
The decision to leave, according to Corrigan, was not an easy one and that he’s doing so with mixed emotions.
“It is never easy to step down and let someone else take the helm,” Corrigan said in a statement.
“So I’m stepping down with mixed emotions, because my time at BC Ferries has been tremendously rewarding and satisfying, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of people – and a very supportive Board. But I am at a stage in my career that I feel it is time to pursue new opportunities.”
Corrigan is set to leave at the end of his contract on March 31, 2017.
Hayes said the board appreciates Corrigan’s lengthy notice and that an executive search has already started.
He also added that the board has a plan in place to ensure a smooth transition for the new CEO.
