Missing mountain climber found safe in Yoho National Park

A mountain climber who went missing while scrambling in Yoho National Park has been found safe and sound.

John Deon, 54, of Golden, B.C., was last seen hiking near Emerald Lake on Friday, heading down the west side of Mount Carnarvon.

He was due back on Friday evening but didn’t return.

“Friends became concerned when the male failed to show up for work,” Golden-Field RCMP Cst. Spencer Lainchbury said in a statement on the Golden-Field RCMP website.

Parks Canada launched a search for Deon at around 10 a.m. on Sunday.

On Monday morning, Parks Canada spokeswoman Tania Peters confirmed he had been located.
