The City of Toronto has issued an extended heat warning based on information from Environment Canada and says seven city pools will remain open later to help residents keep cool.

Toronto’s acting medical officer of health upgraded the heat warning to an extended heat warning Saturday.

During the extended heat warning, the city is encouraging people stay hydrated, avoid the sun and reschedule outdoor activities during cool parts of the day.

There are seven cooling centres open across the city as well as seven pools that will remain open until 11:45 p.m. Saturday to help those looking to escape the extreme heat.

The city is also encouraging residents to check in people who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat.

The extended heat warning will remain in effect until further notice.
